<image:caption>This virtual waterslide was built as part of TOPSHOP’s 2017 Swimwear campaign, and built to mimic the real slides installed in their Oxford Street flagship store. The virtual reality slide was experienced by approximately 4000 people in store, resulting in a 100% increase in sales over the previous year. It was featured in two million Instagram stories and over 3000 photos with the hashtag #TOPSHOPSLASH.</image:caption>

      <image:title>Work - TOPSHOP Waterslide</image:title>
<image:caption>The project had an incredibly short turn around time. We had just 3 weeks to storyboard and produce the experience. Because of this, a realtime engine like Unreal 4 was the obvious choice over a rendered, spherical video solution. What we potentially lost in image quality, we made back in terms of iteration. It allowed us to tweak the experience until the last moment and ensure the client was completely satisfied. It also meant the speed of the experience could be adjusted individually for each user’s comfort.</image:caption>

      <image:title>Work - Back to Health VR</image:title>
<image:caption>The end result was an incredibly immersive experience for the patient. They could walk all the way around the spine and observe it from any angle they chose. The chiropractor, meanwhile, could explain the issues the patient was facing in great detail. The spine’s shape could be altered to match the patient’s, vertebrae could be highlighted to draw attention to specific problems and an example of a correct spine could be brought into the space for comparison. The experience resulted in an increase in not only sales, but also in patients completing their prescribed exercises. Back to Health reported a 98% drop in buyers remorse, and an 82% uplift in patients sticking to their prescribed exercise plan when the system was rolled out to their six locations.</image:caption>

<image:caption>I produced this Virtual Reality demonstration tool for Back to Health, a chiropractors firm based in West London, as part of their re-branding efforts in 2016. They were looking to demonstrate to patients the spinal issues that had been diagnosed, but in a more engaging way then anatomical models and X-rays. I built a system that allowed the patient to enter Virtual Reality while the Chiropractor would use a control panel to manipulate a life size model of a human spine being shown to the patient.</image:caption>

<image:title>Work - Pink Gin AR - Pink Gin Augmented Reality</image:title>
<image:caption>This project was sadly never completed. It was built to promote a popular brand of Pink Gin, building off the fantastic label design produced by Elmwood. The label depicted a magical landscape that begged to be explored further and my aim was to do this through Augmented Reality (AR). The app allowed users to explore a 3D version of the label through their phone or tablet. The hilltop landscape had its own schedule, people went about their days, animals scurried about and the sun rose and set over the course of about three minutes. The user could interact with almost everything in some way, simply by tapping on what they saw. Some objects contained hidden cocktail recipes, snippets of history about the distillery, Spotify playlists and even coupon codes.</image:caption>

      <image:title>Work - Pink Gin AR</image:title>
<image:caption>I built the experience loosely around the concept of a shoe-box diorama brought to life and encouraged the user to get as close as possible when exploring the hilltop village. Sound cues were used to lead the user to areas they might not have noticed and it was intended to be difficult for a user to find everything in their first visit. Some animals only appeared at night, others would come and go several times throughout the day. Other objects formed small puzzles that needed to be completed to unlock recipes, but this was never spelled out to the user overtly. Exploration was key to the experience and hints were only provided sparingly.</image:caption>

      <image:title>Work - Pink Gin AR</image:title>
<image:caption>Translating a two dimensional, illustrative style to 3d can be difficult and some experimentation was needed to get the balance right. The end result was faithful to the designer’s intent and allowed for great flexibility. Some hurdles, such as lighting, required some creative thinking to overcome but I was very happy with the end result, as well as some of the experimental effects that were not yet added to the working version of the project. The animations were a mixture of bought assets, in-house produced motion capture and hand animated movements.</image:caption>

<image:caption>Whilst I was sad that this project couldn’t be finished, it taught me a great many things about project management and pre-production especially. Had it been completed, I’m confident that it would have been the most ambitious example of a promotional Augmented Reality app yet produced.</image:caption>

      <image:title>Work - Architectural Visualisation - Architectural Visualisation in UE4</image:title>
<image:caption>Unreal Engine 4 is proving to be an incredibly powerful tool and is particularly effective for architectural visualisation. Normally, because of the time required to render even still images in traditional, off-line rendering, all images and moving sequences have to be carefully budgeted and planned. However, using a real-time system like Unreal 4 removes that bottleneck almost completely. The animation above took about eight hours to render around 6000 frames of full HD footage on my home computer. This task would have required days, perhaps weeks, to render using traditional methods on the same machine.</image:caption>

      <image:title>Work - Architectural Visualisation</image:title>
<image:caption>Versatility is the key advantage that a real time engine brings to visualisation. For example, is the time of day not quite right? No problem – we can change that in an instant. Need a few additional detail shots for your presentation? Again – a few minutes is all that’s needed to export them, even at high resolution. Camera and dolly moves are often avoided in CGI as they dramatically increase both the render time and time required for corrections or amendments. But now any camera can be dynamic without having to worry about it destroying your render schedule.</image:caption>
